Let's dive in!

Pricing and First Impressions°°

The good news is that the Hilux Black Edition comes at the same price as the normal automatic top-end variant, retailing at an ex-showroom price of ₹37.9 lakh.
But let's be honest, the biggest difference – and arguably the most impactful – is the stunning black color itself. In black, this vehicle truly transforms. With blacked-out elements throughout, it exudes a proper "mafia" feel, making it an absolute head-turner.

Exterior Highlights°°

All Black Everything
From the front, everything is meticulously blacked out, creating a striking and cohesive look. The Toyota emblem is also blacked out, contributing to the stealthy aesthetic. You'll find LED projector headlamps with DRLs, and while there's a hint of chrome, it's minimal, ensuring the black dominance. Front parking sensors and LED fog lamps complete the assertive front fascia. This Hilux in black is undeniably a statement piece.

Moving to the engine°°

there are no mechanical changes, but it's worth noting the absence of hydraulic struts for the hood, which some might miss. Underneath, you'll find the robust 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine, delivering a formidable 204 PS and 500 Nm of torque, paired with an automatic transmission. Power, as expected from a Hilux, is abundant.
The side profile further emphasizes the black theme with blacked-out wheels. While there's a touch of chrome, the overall effect of the black wheels is truly captivating. The tire profile is 265/60 R18, signifying substantial 18-inch wheels. Other side features include the robust side steps, turn signal indicators, and a shark fin antenna.
The rear of the Hilux Black Edition is equally impressive. The "TOYOTA" lettering on the tailgate is prominently highlighted against the black, adding to its visual appeal. LED taillights, rear parking sensors, and a rear camera are standard. The practicality of the "kala daala" (the open bed) is a major draw, offering versatility for various uses, from installing covers to complete custom modifications. The hydraulic tailgate closer adds a touch of safety and convenience.

Interior Comfort and Features°°

Blacked-Out Practicality
Stepping inside the Hilux Black Edition, you'll find a completely blacked-out interior, maintaining the consistent dark theme. Hard plastics are prevalent, designed for durability, but there are also soft-touch elements with stitching on the door pads. All four power windows feature one-touch up/down functionality, and the door pockets offer decent storage.
The rear cabin, with the front seat adjusted for a six-foot individual, provides decent knee room. Adjustable headrests for all three passengers, Isofix mounts, and leather upholstery enhance comfort. While headroom is adequate, the seat recline angle is quite upright, which might affect long-journey comfort. The rear can comfortably accommodate two adults and one child due to a slight protrusion in the center. Rear AC vents and a center armrest with twin cup holders are present, though a central hump limits space. Toyota, a small request: white cabin lights, please!

Moving to the front cabin°°

The key fob is similar to the standard Hilux, offering basic lock and unlock functions. Inside, the ORVM controls and power window switches are intuitively placed. The driver's seat features power adjustment, a welcome addition, and the black upholstery with white stitching looks fantastic.

The dashboard maintains the familiar Hilux layout with silver and chrome accents against a black backdrop. The leather-wrapped steering wheel features controls for the instrument cluster, cruise control, and multimedia. It offers both tilt and telescopic adjustments for optimal driving position.

The instrument cluster, while somewhat traditional, provides essential information like trip meters, range, and a digital speedometer. The 8-inch infotainment system is user-friendly with quick access buttons, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. However, the reverse camera clarity could be improved, and adaptive guidelines are absent.

Below the infotainment system, you'll find dual-zone climate control with a clear display, a 12V power outlet, and controls for downhill assist, traction control, differential lock, and the 4x4 modes (H2, H4, L4). Two large cup holders, Eco and Power modes, and a conventional handbrake are also present. The large armrest, featuring soft-touch material and stitching, conceals a spacious storage compartment with a 100W power output – a useful feature.

The glovebox offers both a lockable compartment and a cooled upper section. Other conveniences include an auto-dimming IRVM, a ticket holder, and a sunglasses holder.

Safety Features°°

In terms of safety, the Hilux Black Edition comes equipped with six airbags, ABS, EBD, hill start assist, and hill descent control. Toyota's commitment to safety remains uncompromised.

The Verdict: Should You Go Black?

If you're considering purchasing a Toyota Hilux, the Black Edition is an absolutely fantastic choice. While it doesn't offer additional features, the black color dramatically alters the vehicle's entire personality and presence. Compared to other colors like red, white, or silver, black truly makes the Hilux stand out, offering a premium and distinctive look.
If you're prepared for the slightly higher maintenance that comes with a dark color, this is definitely the variant to go for, especially since there's no extra cost involved. Plus, keep an eye out for potential discounts currently available on the Hilux – confirm with your local showroom!
You no longer need to consider aftermarket wraps or paint jobs; you get this stunning black straight from the factory.
